The teenager who was hit by a bus near East Croydon station yesterday says she is grateful to everyone who kept her alive.
Speaking from her hospital bed, Amy Andrews told Croydon Guardian she cannot remember much about what happened.
The 16-year-old suffered serious foot and facial injuries in the accident which happened in George Street at around 12.30pm yesterday.
She said: “Basically I don’t remember much of what happened apart from I was on my way to college at the time.
“I’m very lucky to be alive and I'm grateful to everyone who kept me alive.”
Amy is having an operation this morning, which she says will be a skin graft and for a fracture as well as having stitches on her face.
Witnesses yesterday said they feared the worst for the teenager after the collision.
Danielle Uan Ommeren, aged 21, said: "I just came back from my lunch break and saw the ambulance parking. The was a woman on her knees screaming to another woman under the bus.
"They put up a sheet around where she was lying on the ground. It did not look good."
Daniel King, 25, who manages nearby second-hand entertainment store Cex, described the road was an accident blackspot.
He said: "We see a lot of accidents here. Pedestrians have been hit crossing the road. I must have seen about three in the last year."
