Neighbours said polish squatters, who moved into disused police station this week turned up with mattresses, bags of clothes, a guitar and even two dogs and a cat.

About 15 squatters moved into Norbury police station in London Road at 7.30pm on March 15 David Laws, 43, saw a white van pull up outside the station.

Two men and a woman exited the vehicle and broke into the back of the building.

The front doors were then opened and 12 men and a woman thought to be between 30 and 40 years-old carried mattresses, bags of clothes, a guitar and even two dogs and a cat into the station.

Mr Laws said the group can be seen most evenings on the top floor with lights on and windows open.

Mr Laws said: "I don’t know why the police are letting them do this. They should at least cut the power seeing as they are most likely paying for it.

"It is a bit strange but they haven’t caused any trouble so far."

Kash Malik, 35,of Kodak Express, opposite the occupied station said: "It is like the police have been evicted from their own home."

His colleague, Saif Siddiqui, 21, added "It is quite ironic that it is a police station, I don’t know how they let that happen, pure irony."
