A Shirley man has been jailed for his role in a robbery that left his victim seriously injured and in need of extensive plastic surgery.

Jordan Kanon, of Laurel Crescent, Shirley, and Kadele Carew, of Streatham Hill, slashed a 27-year-old man with a broken bottle, also leaving him traumatized, as they stole his mobile phone, on October 25, 2013.

Kanon, 21, and Carew, 19, coaxed their victim to Brixton with the offer of attending a party before leaving him down an alleyway and attacking him.

Police arrested the pair after a searching Sudbourne Road, Brixton.

The 27-year-old suffered a serious wound to his hand.

Kanon and Carew were both found guilty of robbery at Inner London Crown Court. Carew was also found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm.

Kanon was jailed for four years and Carew for nine years.

Det Con Jamie Keane, of the Metropolitan Police's Lambeth Robbery Squad, said: "This was a challenging case, particularly with the vulnerable victim and his concerns with the criminal justice process.

"I thank him for his courage in supporting police, which resulted in these successful convictions and lengthy sentences.

"The community should be reassured that these types of robberies are not an everyday occurrence and we are doing everything thing we can to keep you safe."
