A Croydon nightclub has had its licence revoked following a stabbing at a Tim Westwood gig last month.

At a Croydon Council licensing sub committee hearing today, councillors agreed that the 12-20 club could not upkeep its licensing objectives and ruled it should close.

Croydon police applied to revoke the club's licence following the incident on April 21 where a man was stabbed and there was a mass brawl.

Police believed management at the club was incompetent and would not be able to improve in the future.

They also sited that gang members, who were present at the Westwood gig, targeted the club as it was a weak link.

But David Dadds, representing the club, said management had done all they can to ensure the club was safe.

He said police did not share all their intelligence with them before in their risk assessment.

Mr Dadds also argued officers inspected the venue an hour before the incident took place and showed no cause for concern.

But Croydon Council after a deliberation of more than an hour and half agreed with the police that the club could not continue.
