Discarded fridges are thought to have been deliberately torched outside a restaurant this morning.
Firefighters were called to flames behind Singapore Orchid in Chipstead Valley Road at 4am.
A crew from Purley fire station extinguished the fire, which did not spread.
Watch manager Phil Newbery said: "The fridges had been thrown away, they were scrap.
"I would imagine that they were set alight by persons or persons unknown."
