A cat suffered serious injuries when it was heartlessly thrown from the fifth-floor of a block of flats in Croydon.

The miracle moggy survived the fall, from Dartmouth House in Elmwood Road, but has been left with a collapsed lung, broken femur and shattered rear legs.

The fluffy tabby tomcat was found by a resident of the block at around 5.30pm on Sunday, after her neighbours' young children saw him being thrown.

He is now being cared for in the RSPCA's animal hospital in Putney.

RSPCA inspectors are now looking to trace the owner of the cat, who was not microchipped or wearing a tag, and are also appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Inspector Nick Wheelhouse said: "Understandably this poor cat is in a really bad way and we would really like to trace the owner as soon as possible.

"It is amazing he has survived but he has broken legs and is in a bad way. He is in such a sorry state we feared the worst for him.

"He must be someone’s pet and they may be wondering where he is. When he was found he had no microchip or tag, just a blue flea collar.

Croydon Guardian:

The cat's rear legs were broken by the fall

He added: "We would also like anyone with information about this incident to come forward.

"This would’ve been an extremely distressing incident for the cat and he has been left in a lot of pain with very serious injuries."

Anyone with information about the incident or who knows the owner of the cat can contact Inspector Wheelhouse on the RSPCA appeal line: 0300 123 8018.

Anyone who does that do an animal is a psychopath and sooner or later will be trying to kill other people. That person needs immediate psychiatric treatment and/or be put in prison.

@Pawel_Si: Yes, we do need to know about them. Abusing animals like that is not the best of signs when it comes to someone's Mental Health.

Throw the owner five floors and see how he likes it.
Here's hoping the cat makes it

Its time we got serious about animal cruelty, and made this a jail offence. Would be dog-owners should have to apply for their own licences. Its not the dog that's an a**hole!.
