An award-winning restaurateur came to sample street food that is spicing up Croydon - and ended up in the kitchen himself.

Iqbal Wahhab, who founded the Cinnamon Club and Roast, visited Platform at Ruskin Square on Thursday.

He was in town to support Mum's the Chef, a Croydon social enterprise that tackles long-term unemployment among ethnic minority women by cultivating cookery skills.

Mum's the Chef, launched by Sahara Quli last year, has served up food at Mr Wahhab's events and dinner parties.

The restaurateur, who took a turn at cooking at the stall, said: "I think Mum’s the Chef is a fantastic model for creating local employment opportunities."

Mum's the Chef, which cooks world foods including Kenya, Indian, Thai and Lebanese, makes food in a Ms Quli's house but will soon move to a pop-up stall in Centrale.
