Police admit no charge imminent over shooting

Police have admitted they are unlikely to charge anyone over the shooting of young rapper Umar Tufail in the next four weeks.

At the opening of an inquest into his death this morning Croydon Coroners Court heard the 25-year-old died from a gunshot wound to the head.

Detective Inspector Matt Gosling of Trident told the court officers were called to Wharncliffe Road, South Norwood, on Sunday afternoon where they found Mr Tufail slumped in a parked car.

Det Insp Gosling said: "He was taken to Kings College and kept alive by a life support machine which was switched off the following day."

He confirmed police were unlikely to charge anyone in the next 28 days.

Coroner Doctor Roy Palmer ordered a second autopsy to be carried out by the coroners court.

The inquest was adjourned, pending the police investigation.
