The only pre-school group for disabled children in Croydon has received an outstanding result in its Ofsted Inspection.

The excellent result puts the Croydon Opportunity Pre-school Group (COPG) in the top 4 per cent of pre-schools schools in the country.

The school, which provides care for some of the most vulnerable children in the borough, was rated outstanding in all areas.

Rebecca Elizabeth Khabbazi, Ofsted inspector, praised the dedication of the staff and said the children thrived in the “exceptionally welcoming” environment.

She said: “The setting offers an exemplary service that very successfully promotes all aspects of children's welfare and development.

“Children are exceptionally well cared for in the safe, inclusive environment. Excellent relationships with parents and other partners contribute significantly to ensuring that each child is effectively supported and flourishes in the setting.

“Children are extremely happy and settled and demonstrate this with lots of smiles and laughter throughout the session.”

Angelene Rackett, chair of the COPG, said: “Despite moving premises three times in a year before finally settling in Tollgate as part of Oasis, Shirley Park, the group recently received an Outstanding report from OFSTED.

“All the staff are to be congratulated on their hard work and commitment following a period of great upheaval and uncertainty.”
