Five-year-old asks PM to save St Helier services
A highly intelligent five-year-old has written to David Cameron about the proposals to close St Helier Hospital’s A&E and maternity.
Five-year-old Aadarsh wrote to the Prime Minister about St Helier Hospital
Aadarsh George, five, from Carshalton is a regular reader of the Sutton Guardian and has been following the campaign to Save St Helier.
Sutton’s child genius, Aadarsh, hit the headlines when he was three years old because of his remarkable knowledge of the world’s capital cities.
Aadarsh who goes to school at Muschamp Primary asked his father, Anish, if he could contact Prime Minister David Cameron about St Helier Hospital.
Proud father, Mr George, said: "I am very happy about Aadarsh’s initiation after reading the Sutton Guardian campaign.
Aadarsh George, five, says no to cutting services at St Helier Hospital
"A five-year-old boy has concerns about the closure of the hospital he was born in and which provide him health care.
"He was browsing the net. He showed me and was telling me about the campaign.
"He asked me ‘Dad why can’t you campaign?’ - I said I am supporting, I signed Tom Brake’s petition and the Sutton Guardian’s.
"He said ‘Why can’t you send a complaint to Parliament?’"
With the guidance of his father, Aadarsh wrote a letter for the Prime Minister where he thanked him for the £219m promised to the hospital.
Little Aadarsh waits for a reply from the Department of Health
However he goes on to say: "I have born in this St Helier hospital after a major caesarean to my mother.
"Twice I have been taken to the A&E of St Helier Hospital directly from Muschamp School, many times from the home to the hospital under my five years of life. This hospital is so important to me."
At the end of the letter Aadarsh makes it clear that he wants no cuts in any of the Hospital’s units and instead asks for additional facilities.
On Tuesday, June 26, Aadarsh received a reply on behalf of David Cameron which said: "Mr Cameron very much appreciates the time and trouble you have taken to get in touch about St Helier Hospital.
"Because the Department of Health is best placed to respond to the matters you raise, he has asked me to forward your letter and enclosures to the Department so that they may reply to you directly."

to save money in hospitals, they should stop companies ripping them off by charging £000s just to decorate a room - said from experience

Well said Michael Pantlin, Hat off to Aadarsh George, you are more brilliant to interfere in such activities. All Suttner’s fight to keep our hospital fully alive.

The civil servant will just give you a run down of the process and where we are in it, I have seen so many. He/she will stress that the plan is medically led (by selected people), that no decisions have yet been made (ha-ha) and that it will go out for public consultation (cosmetic as the public have already spoken through petitions and the press about their wishes). The Coalition Government have driven this and then put the destruction at arms length claiming it's done by their temporary bodies that are planned to self destruct once their dirty work is done so we have no comback. That is also why we have a deafening silence from our MP Paul Burstow who is a Care Minister who prefers to take his photo opportunities dabbling in sideshows such as the opening of a Cats Protection charity shop and suggesting an exercise regime to deal with care of the elderly. At the end of the day they can't make us go to Tooting while there are other possibilities. It would help if the local population took the view that they refuse to listen to another utterance from the politicians, managers or ad hoc quango members until we have an assurance that St. Helier will be allowed to continue in its present and valued form without further interference. Keep up your good work Aardarsh you will be more popular than the politicians.
