McDermott's Fish and Chips, in Addington, will no longer need to fish for compliments after being crowned the best chippy in London and the south-east.
The chip shop, based in the Forestdale Centre, battered the competition in the National Fish and Chip Shop of the Year contest.
Owner Tony McDermott and his staff will now compete against nine other fish and chip shops from across the country to become the best in the UK. The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on February 1 next year.
He said: "I am absolutely over the moon to be crowned the best in London and the south-east. I am so grateful to the staff and customers for their support, it's definitely helped us get this far.
"I am looking forward to the challenge of becoming the best in the UK."
