Rotarians have launched an appeal to replace Christmas lights that have lost their sparkle.
New Malden Rotary Club is seeking support from residents, schools, clubs and businesses to help put the twinkle back in the lights, which line the high street during the festive period each year.
The organisation has raised £7,000 but need a further £5,000 to fund the cause, which Kingston’s Mayor Councillor Patrick Codd has lent his support to.
Rotarian Michael Robson said: "The lights are an important part of the festive community spirit at Christmas time and are important for the children of New Malden, especially at the switching on ceremony and the high street parade with Father Christmas."
The group raised more than £6,000 from their Christmas appeal last year, which included coordinating the lights switch on and Santa and his sleigh touring the neighbourhood greeting families and handing out presents.
Donations for the appeal can be made by cheque, payable to New Malden Rotary Club (Lights) at Barclays Bank in New Malden High Street. Sort Code: 20-46-73 - Account No: 33513882.
