Judges mull over impressive field as they determine this year’s champions

2:30pm Friday 5th October 2007

The Croydon Champions committee met last week to consider which of the many worthy nominations we received would be winners.

After many hours of deliberation the huge number of people and organisations entered for our unrivalled community awards were narrowed down to a select band. Now the final selection process begins.

In what has been one of the best received Croydon Champions campaigns, there are many commendable acts of selfless devotion to the borough and its people that must be considered by our panel of judges.

During our initial meeting last week members of the Croydon Champions committee expressed their delight at the standard of entries this year.

Croydon Guardian assistant editor Danny Brierley said: "This year has been one of our best. The Champions campaign has really caught the imagination of the people of Croydon.

"It seems like we say it every year but this time there can be no doubt - the standard of nominations has been fantastic. It is extremely humbling to realise that there are people out there doing there best just to cope in incredibly difficult circumstances."
