A "strong" and "inspirational" mother-of-two has been nominated for the Croydon Champions Parent of the Year award.
Janet Prescott of Wynton Gardens, South Norwood, was nominated for the award by her 16-year-old daughter Catherine.
Mrs Prescott who is also mother to Connor, aged seven, knew nothing about her nomination until she got back from a recent family holiday to Canada.
The 44-year-old bank worker, said: "It is a real surprise. I didn't know a thing about it until I checked my voicemail when I got back.
"I was listening to it as I was walking through the airport and then Catherine told me about the nomination. It was something she did with the help of my mum, but just the two of them knew about it."
On her nomination form, Catherine wrote: "Mum has been the most amazing person especially this year after we lost my dad this June.
"She is always so loving and caring to my brother and I think this award will be the best thanks we can give her for being so strong and inspirational."
Mrs Prescott added: "It is lovely to be nominated, it obviously means I am doing something right and that she loves me as much as I love her.
"I am really proud of Catherine and the way she has coped over the last few months. She has been so mature and has helped me by being strong."
Now is your very last chance to nominate someone for a Croydon Champions award. Nominations close this Friday, September 9. Online nomination forms can be submitted until midnight on Friday.
All nominees will be shortlisted and invited to an award ceremony in November.
