A Croydon woman with Down's syndrome has realised her ambition of becoming a club DJ.

Hannah Marvelly has shrugged off those who used her learning difficulties as an excuse not to employ her and is now living her dream.

She was helped on her way to the decks by Heart n Soul - an artistic company she got involved with seven years ago. It is a group made up of nearly 100 artists with learning disabilities who create shows, events, recordings and films.

And now the 27-year-old from South Croydon is a DJ, a video DJ and a dancer.

She regularly spins the discs at the popular Squidz Club which is run by Heart 'n Soul in Deptford, south London.

The club is ten years old this year and was originally helped by the Diana Princess of Wales Memorial Fund.

"I love my special talents, especially DJ-ing, as it makes me feel alive," Hannah said, "I really enjoy watching the audience relax and engage with the contemporary music I play."

Hannah's talents have seen her play in some top venues across the UK and even travel abroad.

She has played in Trafalgar Square and at the Liberty Festival which raises awareness of the talents of disabled people.

"So far, I feel I have achieved some really brilliant things for a young person," Hannah said, "At the Liberty Festival I took part in dancing and DJ-ing performance in our group called Heart 'n Soul Clubs Posse."

Hannah also took part in the Disability Eurovision Song contest where she sang to a huge audience. She has played in Berlin and at one of the UK's top dance clubs, the Ministry of Sound.

She added: "I would love to perform in huge venues, like Wembley Arena. I want people to know and recognise me, and really enjoy listening to my music compilations."

Hannah is due to appear with Heart n Soul Dance at the Liberty Festival in Trafalgar Square on Saturday, September 1.
