Family and friends of Eugene Attram, who was murdered a year ago, laid flowers at the scene where he died and called for his killers to come forward.

Eugene, 16, was stabbed in Mitcham a year ago today as he made his way to a fireworks display.

Police have interviewed 650 people and arrested 24 youths over the killing but nobody has been charged with the stabbing.

Eugene's father, Isaac, said: "It's a very painful memory for me - like revisiting the whole day again.

"I hope this day gives confidence for people who know something to come forward.

"It's been a year and we still have not had closure on and it's still hurting."

His words were echoed by Detective Inspector Alison Hepworth, who hoped the day might jog someone's memory.

She said: "I think it's important to recognise that Eugene died a year ago and we are still appealling for witnesses to come forward.

"There are people out there with valuable information.

"The purpose of today is to highlight the death again in case it brings it to the forefront of someone's memory and perhaps they can talk to the police."

Isaac added: "Eugene as a person, the way he was, he has gone but he is not forgotten."

Flowers were laid at the scene of the stabbing, prayers were read and hymns sung and tributes were left on the nearby railings.
