Scannell promoted to U21s

Crystal Palace striker Sean Scannell has been called up to the Republic of Ireland U21 squad for the first time to face Montenegro next Tuesday.

The teenager, who celebrates his 19th birthday on Friday, was originally in the U18 side but has been promoted after Blackburn Rovers winger Keith Treacy was injured.

Scannel has won ten caps at U17 and U18 level and was recently honoured with the Irish Examiner National Junior Sports Star Award in Dublin.
