The demand for a calendar featuring Croydon’s roundabouts has run rings around its creators, forcing them to pass on the orders to a bigger printing company.

No one at BB Print Digital Ltd could have predicted the success of their bizarre creation of the Rare Roundabouts of Croydon calendar, which was featured in the Guardian, the national press and on the Channel 4’s V Graham Norton show since it was launched a month ago.

Keeping up with the high volume of orders has driven BB Print’s director Kevin Beresford right round the bend, to the point where he has been forced to pass the order on to a larger printers.

And a top London book publisher has just snapped up the rights to publish the calendars as a book, ready to hit the shelves next Christmas.

Kevin revealed: “We’ll be selling the film rights next! New Holland Publishers in London will be publishing a 96-page book on the roundabout calendars next Christmas and Croydon will feature heavily in it.

“We have been overwhelmed by the requests for the Croydon calendar - we even had one sale at Scotland Yard, God knows why they want it.

“We’ve sold it to a lot of professional people such as doctors, maybe they want it for their waiting rooms.

“We will definitely be following up this calendar with a 2005 version.” Rare Roundabouts of Croydon is now available from the Croydon Tourist Office in the Clocktower on Katharine Street.

lThe success of Rare Roundabouts of Croydon has sparked a craze in the borough, with Purley Library creating their own local landmark calendar for 2004.

Using its collection of almost 2,000 photographs, library staff have produced a calendar with 13 pictures of historic views in Purley and its surrounding areas spanning 100 years.

The calendar is priced £2.99 and is available at Purley, Coulsdon, Sanderstead libraries and the Croydon Clocktower.
