Addiscombe 4
Goan 1

Addiscombe experienced the highs and lows of league hockey this weekend, when they were hammered 5-0 by unbeaten Reigate Priory on Saturday, but thrashed Goan 4-1 on Sunday, writes Joseph O'Shea.

The results leave Addiscombe in sixth place in the division, but just three points off second place with a game in hand, and six to play.

On Saturday, top of the table Reigate Priory clinched the Surrey Division One championship by whitewashing Addiscombe. After a good start the champions in waiting were out-played for 20 minutes, before two defensive mistakes in a couple of minutes saw Priory take a 2-0 lead into the break.

In the second half, the pressure of chasing the game told on Addiscombe and further errors saw them picked off by a rampant Reigate, oozing confidence on their unbeaten run.

Captain Dave Thomas said: "They are far and away the best side in the league and although we got thrashed 5-0, it was one of our best performances of the season."

Addiscombe will be glad to see the back of Priory who progress to the regional leagues.

On Sunday, Addiscombe showed they had learned the lessons of defeat, with a resounding win over Goan.

Leading scorer Phil Wise set them on their way with a brace, midfielder Danny Jones got another, before second string striker Ed Williams opened his senior account.
