Wandsworth GCSE results at all-time high

GCSE grades in the borough are at a record high after an overall increase of six percentage points, the council announced this week.

Provisional results show the proportion of students achieving five or more A* to C grades including English and Maths jumped from 53 to 58.7 per cent since last year.

Meanwhile, the proportion of students to achieve five or more A* to C grades in any subject improved by 8 points to reach 81.2 per cent.

Councillor Kathy Tracey, executive member for education and children's services, said: "Congratulations to all of our hard working students on this outstanding set of results. Once again we’ve seen a strong improvement on last year and a new benchmark has been set.

“We're extremely proud of the high standards of education we provide here in Wandsworth. It’s no wonder our schools are so popular.”

Validated results will be available from the Department for Education in January next year.
