Shirley school welcomes week of police lessons Shirley school welcomes week of police lessons

Police have visited a primary school and enlisted pupils in the new Junior Police Academy.

Officers from Shirley Safer Neighbourhood Partnership are in Spring Park Primary all this week teaching year 6 pupils skills such as crime solving, explaining laws such as the theft act and working with ambulance and air support teams.

PCSO Jack Muscatt, said: "This is about having the kids see the police in a different light, not just about arresting people but protecting and working in the community."

On Tuesday February 7 the Junior Police Academy was set the challenge of breaking an evil crime ring of teachers hell bent on confiscating all computer games.

Working throughout the day, the prime suspect was located and interviewed by the budding crime fighters.

PCSO Muscatt said: "It is about having fun as well, we have run this in other school and it has proved to be very successful. Hopefully the kids get a lot out of it."
