Shakespeare is coming to the Fairfield Halls with a musical twist this month, writes Andy Bloss.
The group Shakespeare 4 Kidz (S4K) returns to Croydon with its musical version of The Tempest.
S4K, an award-winning theatre company, specialises in adaptations of classic Shakespeare stories which mixes the original text with modern language, music, song and dance.
The Tempest is one of the last plays written entirely by Shakespeare. It is about Prospero, a former Duke, who has ended up on an enchanted island after being overthrown by his wicked brother.
Prospero is also a sorcerer and whilst on the island, he perfects his magical arts so he can take revenge on his brother.
S4K’s musical version of The Tempest will put a new twist on one Shakespeare’s most popular plays.
A spokeswoman for S4K says: "The plays are designed to be entertaining as well as educational, meaning that children as young as eight can enjoy them.
"Adults who have been put off Shakespeare because they remember boring lessons at school will find S4K’s works shake up Shakespeare, find all the fun in them and tell the tales clearly and concisely.
"As well as being a unique family show, S4K’s The Tempest will ensure that everyone in the audience will have a complete grasp of the plot, themes, characters and relationships within the play."
The Tempest, Fairfield Halls, Park Lane, January 14, 7.30pm and 15, 1.30pm. £18 and £11. Call 020 8688 9291 or visit www.fairfield.co.uk
