The world land speed record holder for a steam powered car will be in the hot seat for a fundraising event at Brooklands Museum.

Speedster Don Wales will give a talk and a private tour of the Weybridge museum in aid of Sam Beare Hospice on May 10.

Motoring fans will also be privy to an update on 1,000mph Bloodhound Super Sonic Car project from the president of the supporters’ club Ian Glover, who is the main driving force behind the event.

Mr Glover says: “It’s a once in a lifetime experience and whether you’re nine or 90, if you like cars and engineering this is not to be missed.”

Don’s grandfather Sir Malcolm Campbell MBE and uncle Donald Campbell OBE broke more than 20 world land and water speed records between them.

Mr Wales says: “People can expect stories about my family’s record breaking achievements and a slightly humorous look at my own record attempts with the steam car, electric cars and ride on lawn mower.”

Mr Glover adds: “It’ll be a wonderful mix of family history and human endeavour, and of course a lot of personal experience dealing with the famous Bluebird car.”

Tickets, which cost £10 including limited entrance to Brooklands Museum, can be bought from the hospice fundraising department on 01483 881752. Doors will open at 6pm for a 7.15pm start.
