With just one month and 14 days until the London Marathon, you have probably already figured out your training regime if you are undertaking this extraordinary feat of endurance.

If not, or if you need someone screaming at you to motivate yourself away from the sofa and Eastenders, why not try Yummy Mummy Boot Camp which runs sessions three times a week in Morden Park.

Despite its deceptive title you don’t need to be a) a Mummy, or b) Yummy (in fact after the 60 minute workout you’ll be looking far from scrumptious) to take part as trainer Gareth Davies explains; “We get all sorts of people coming, on Mondays it is predominantly females - hairdressers and postal shift workers who have the morning off, but at the weekends we get couples who want to train together and guys.”

A search on Google for ‘Boot Camp Fitness’ brings up over 350 000 results, clearly masochistic exercise is here to stay; “We are a bit harsh, there’s no denying that,” says Davies. “Some people get quite competitive so we match them up when we do group work. The group environment encourages people work harder.”

The Wimbledon Guardian tends to feel sick at the thought of exercise but the fact that sessions take place outside in the fresh air, rather than a sweaty gym, persuaded us a little more of its merits.

“Working outdoors makes it far more interesting, you can’t clock watch and you’re not confined to a studio or gym so time goes fast,” says Davies who runs the sessions with his partner Katie O’Reilly.

The pair, who are both qualified personal trainers, are getting married at the registry office in Morden Park this summer; “We run past where we are getting married all the time,” laughs Davies.
