Tony giving back after 25 years

11:54am Thursday 15th December 2005

One of the most distinctive voices in pop returns to Fairfield, Croydon. Fortunate to have an instantly recognisable voice, Tony Hadley, former lead singer with Spandau Ballet, is singing his heart out for charity for one night only.

I spoke to Tony to find out more about the charity and the forthcoming concert. However, that gorgeous voice was decidedly the worse for a cold.

"I'm sorry about the voice," he says, "but funnily enough it holds up when I'm singing.

"The concert in Croydon is for the Lowes Syndrome Trust UK. It's a charity I got to hear of and I know the chairman Lorraine Thomas, whose son Oscar is a victim of this horrible syndrome. It's a metabolic disorder that mainly affects the eyes, kidneys and brain. This year I celebrate 25 years in the business and I suppose my concerts are like a testimonial and I want to give something back, although that is a corny clich, it's true.

"My services are free for the concert and Fairfield is donating a portion of the ticket sales to the trust.

The show will be party time and I hope to get a really nice vibe going."

Fans can enjoy his Christmas concert in Croydon with a mix of his favourite songs and the Spandau Ballet hits that made Tony famous.

"I know it's expected of me and I don't want to disappoint people."
