As the winter starts to shuffle away and we look forward to having some colour in the natural world (our cheeks included), you can bridge the gap with a new exhibition of vibrant, bright paintings by Lucy Doyle.
Cerulean Dreams opens at the Barbara Stanley Gallery in Putney this week, continuing until the end of the month. Lucy draws her inspiration sources including ancient decorative arts and Bonnard, and you can see her penchant for the exotic, intense colours of Matisse.
She paints largely still life and interiors, with figurative and landscape elements. Of her style, Lucy says that she applyies thick, impasto paint with a palette knife to prevent her work becoming too absorbed with detail.
Her work is permanently shown at two Dublin galleries and appears in many public and private collections. She exhibits internationally in Stockholm, France and Italy and in 1985 she won the Windsor and Newton Prize at the National Portrait Award Exhibition in Dublin.
