Chiwetel Ejiofor has revealed he would consider starring in a James Bond film.

The Oscar-nominated British actor has been tipped to play a villain in the next film opposite Daniel Craig as 007, and while he remains tight-lipped over the casting rumours, he said he holds the spy series in high regard.

"It's not for me to talk about that really, but it's an extraordinary franchise obviously," he said, nodding his head when asked if he would like the role.

Chiwetel, who received a best actor Oscar nod and won numerous awards for his performance in Steve McQueen's 12 Years A Slave, will next be seen in sci-fi film Z For Zachariah.

Chris Pine and Margot Robbie also star in Craig Zobel's big-screen adaptation of Robert C O'Brien's novel.

"Z For Zachariah is finished now. We shot that in New Zealand, with a really great cast," he said.

"It was the first time I'd done a film that is a three-hander. It was a really great experience just to work with two other actors. We were in quite a remote part in the South Island and it is a really interesting story to tell, so I'm really excited about it."

The 36-year-old, who reunites with Thandie Newton in Half Of A Yellow Sun, said he has "plenty of memories" of his year, following the success of 12 Years A Slave.

"It was an extraordinary journey with a film that I was deeply proud of. Everybody involved in the film was very proud of it and I think Steve McQueen made a very rare film, a very exceptional film, so it was great taking it on that journey," he said.
