American Pie: Reunion - Reviewed

Those of us who laughed at the antics of four school friends on a quest to lose their virginity, all of thirteen years ago want to know how their lives have changed. We have all been there. You go to your school reunion in the hope of regaining a small part of your life when it was a much more innocent age of fun without responsibilities. The American Pie gang are no different. Jim (Jason Biggs) is married to Michelle (Alyson Hannigan) now with a young son and the pair seem to have drifted away from romance and sexual desire. Kevin (Thomas Ian Nicholas) is happily married but not to Vicky (Tara Reid) though and is a kind of stay at home husband. Oz (Chris Klein) is a TV sports presenter who has a slimy on screen persona and is living in an unhappy relationship with a beautiful and sexy model (unhappy how?) and secretly pines for old flame Heather (Mena Savari). And Finch (Eddie Kaye Thomas) seems to have been living an adventurous lifestyle as a well travelled windswept and interesting bachelor. Of course we can’t forget the fifth member of the gang...Stifler (Sean William Scott) not so much a friend but an acquaintance.

Ironically though it’s Stifler that holds everything together, he is the only character that hasn’t changed that much and seems to have the funniest moments in the film and as expected most his moments are extremely gross!

The other element of this film that went down well with the audience is the return of Jim’s Dad (the brilliant Eugene Levi) and Stifler’s Mom (Jennifer Coolidge) who is still a MILF vamp. Look out for a cameo from Rebecca De Mornay (Risky Business / The Hand That Rocks the Cradle) guaranteed to get the biggest cheer.

Sure the whole thing is very obvious and predictable but it doesn’t really matter. It’s all about the familiarity of the characters we all love and the music of Blink 182 and the Barenaked Ladies.
