A south London company’s pasta dish has beaten off stiff competition from major supermarket brands to win a Quality Food Award.

At a lavish ceremony in central London, usual suspects M&S, Tesco, Aldi and the rest walked off with most of the awards but fighting back was Rondanini UK, based in Herne Hill.

Her hand-made braised beef tortelloni with Barolo wine for Costco won the Pasta, Rice and Couscous category ahead of Iceland’s couscous with vegetables and Marks and Spencer’s Bucatini Pasta.

The award was presented by Sunday Brunch’s Simon Rimmer and chocolatier Will Torrent, who praised said: “Great pasta, nice and thin, and the filling is very meaty and full of texture and flavor.”

A delighted Francesca Falcone of Rondanini said: “Fresh pasta eating occasions are increasing and our authentic handmade Italian fresh pasta demonstrates that we can create restaurant quality for the home market.”
Marks and Spencer won the prestigious Quality Food Awards’ Retailer of the Year and their Black Cod also bagged the overall Gold Q prize, beating more than 1400 products across 80 categories.
