A butcher has rustled up a sizzling sausage campaign in support of Croydon's X Factor hopeful Ben Haenow.

Banger fanatic Ron Etheridge, who owns the Villagers butchers, High Street, Beckenham, has created a signature sausage in Ben’s honour.

Van driver Mr Haenow, who was a pupil at Edenham High School, is a favourite to win this year’s X Factor.

The 29-year-old, from Shrublands, was safely through to the next round of the competition after performing his take on AC/DC classic, Highway to Hell.

Sausage creator Mr Etheridge said: "We’ve named a sausage after Ben and we are backing him all the way.

Your Local Guardian:

"He’s a local lad and he deserves to do well.

"The sausages are very versatile like him.

"They have really got the X Factor."

The 47-year-old sausage enthusiast, who has owned Villagers for almost 20 years, has invented a unique recipe for Ben’s banger using red chilli pepper, honey, garlic, coriander, sage and oregano.

He said: "The sausages are sweet and spicy, catering for many flavours like Ben’s singing."
