OUTSIDE in the sunshine with friends and family – there is no better way to dine. But we have all been to barbecues that have ended in disaster, so party planners eventa.co.uk have given us some tips to help you keep your cool when it gets hot.

Plan ahead

The golden rule of event planning.  The more organised you are the less you will need to worry on the day and the more you can relax and enjoy your party.

The weather is an important factor to consider when organising an outdoor event, so check the forecast and pick a date which is predicted to be sunny - or invest in a weather proof canopy or gazebo which will keep the rain at bay and guests dry and happy.

RSVP

Contact your guests and ask who will be able to make it.  This will give you an idea of numbers for your event allowing you to cater accordingly- there’s nothing worse than not enough food and drink for everyone.

Seating, Tableware & Decorations

A fantastic way to make your BBQ extra special is to theme your event- this is a great way to tie in your tableware, menu and decorations.

Why not opt for a beach BBQ theme or a fun all American style party; we suggest putting colourful bunting or lanterns and atmospheric lighting around your garden with either candles or fairy lights for the evening- a simple but effective look that will always impress.

Pick a Delicious Summertime Menu

Drinks

Serve cool refreshing summertime drinks, why not make your own cocktails or mocktails or serve jugs of Pimms and Sangria.

Food

The menu can be as simple or as complicated as you like, the fun of having a BBQ is anything goes- it’s more about the outdoor experience, these are some of our favourites:

• Greek Salad Skewers

• Minted lamb burgers (add pesto for an extra twist)

• Hot dogs in pittas

• Lemon peppered chicken

• Marinated prawns in garlic

• Mini jacket potatoes

Key things to remember:

Prepare all food in advance, for marinades its best to marinate overnight for best results.

Pre heat the BBQ before guests arrive, it takes at least 30 minutes for the coals to get hot and the smell of a BBQ when guests arrive is always extremely inviting.

Music

A summertime playlist is definitely in order for a fun BBQ, we suggest playing the songs which start off  with a more relaxed chilled out sound and progress to some more up-beat party songs, this will set the mood of the guests and get the party going later in the day.

Kids

Your Local Guardian:

Happy children equal happy parents so it is crucial to keep those little angels entertained at your BBQ.

Set up a children’s corner with garden games, invest in a bubble machine, a paddling pool or even organise a treasure hunt or hire someone to do some face painting.
