Elmbridge Museum plunged into darkness
Blackout will be coming to Elmbridge Museum to teach children a bit about life during the war.
The next family fun day at the museum will be on Saturday, November 10, and organisers will close the curtains and entertain people with activities commonly used to during air raids in World War II.
The event runs from 2pm to 4.30pm and, although booking is not necessary, the day is open on a first come, first served basis.
Councillor Jan Fuller, member for leisure and culture, said: “This event will explore how families whiled away the long hours spent in total darkness.
“The blackout imposed on all civilians in all cities was absolute and somehow people had to survive the anguish by sharing games and some light entertainment.
“This event will be an eye opener for children, who will discover that the most simple games were vital for families to keep hope and their minds busy during these very dark times.”
Children must be accompanied by an adult. A charge of £1.50 per child applies.
