Charles Dickens’ Christmas Carol will be performed through an interactive puppetry show.

Working in collaboration with Petersham Playhouse and Sam Wyer, of Les Enfants Terribles, Smoking Apples have created a site-specific version of a classic novel, Christmas Carol.

The immersive performance will use puppets and storytelling to help Scrooge loosen his chains, find his seasonal cheer and strike up some festive nostalgia.

Cofounder of Smoking Apples Molly Freeman explains how Petersham House will be transformed into Scrooge’s home, where he will encounter the different ghosts in different rooms.

She says: “The audience will get the chance to walk through the house as they go and it’s very beautiful so is a real treat.

“We are keeping to the narrative mostly but the way it’s told will be very different.”

About 16 cast members will bring the festive tale to life in Petersham Playhouse, which was established in 2011 by Anna Boglione and Louis Waymouth.

The playhouse showcases work from contemporary writers, performers, musicians and dancers blending theatre, dance and music.

Past productions include La Petite Mort, a collaboration between the Old Vic Tunnels and Les Enfants Terrible Theatre Company, and a Christmas Cracker.
