Elkie Brooks to perform at Epsom Playhouse
5:39pm Thursday 17th January 2013 in Vibe By Hardeep Matharu
Elkie Brooks will be bringing her annual tour to the Epsom Playhouse
One of the most versatile voices of a generation will be bringing her powerful tones to town.
Elkie Brooks, a solo artist and singer with R&B band Vinegar Joe, may now be in the fifth decade of her career, but she is still proving to be one of the most bankable singers for fans old and new.
With a number of hit singles, million-selling albums and awards under her belt, she will bring her classic songs to life in this annual tour - including a mix of jazz and blues numbers and music from her new album Powerless.
Known for her husky voice, she achieved her biggest success in late 1970s and 80s with songs including Pearl’s a Singer, Lilac Wine, Don’t Cry Out Loud, Fool (If You Think It’s Over), and No More the Fool.
Brooks released her autobiography, Finding My Voice, last year.
The Playhouse describes her as "a stunning performer and whatever she does, she does it best live".
