An edible town project, the Seething Pasty and a craft bomb will be exploding onto the scene at the Surbiton Food Festival.

The latest workshops have been announced for the lead-up to the event. Residents and traders are invited to sew and grow their own foods.

Templates for making stuffed felt food have been produced for craft enthusiasts.

The creations will all go towards a giant craft bomb set to explode over the streets of Surbiton.

Businesses and families are invited to fill a recycled platter with home-grown vegetables, such as beetroot, peas, broad beans and kale, for the ‘edible town’ project.

It begins with a ‘paint your own palette’ workshop in April.

To top it all, the Seething Pasty competition calls on the community to create a new ‘legendary’ village pasty.

Residents are encouraged to pick up their ingredients from C.D. Jennings and Son butchers.

The competition will take place during the Village Fete on Sunday May 12.

The festival will be held in Surbiton town centre from May 4-19. The activities include: May 4 – The Great Food Fight. May 5 – Sardine Festival.

May 11 and 12 – Village Fete and Stalls in St Andrews Square. May 18 – Farmers Market and Sports Day and Teddy Bears’ Picnic in Victoria Park.

May 19 – Surbiton Sunday Brunch.

The Comet's coverage of the exploits of the Seething Wells community is becoming a little wearysome. In Cometland nothing happens culturally unless the good folk from the Lamb pub are involved. Reporters: open your eyes and ears and report and promote the plays and concerts and other good stuff going on across the borough. I mean absolutely no disrespect to the fun events that Lefi Ganderson and his followers put on, but it seems to me that the Comet doesn't promote artistic works other than those coming from this good and eccentric bunch.

I agree with Steve C but I don't think I'd describe them as a good and eccentric bunch. They are an arts clique whose inclusiveness does not stretch very far. Sure they can impact loads of people by blowing up a pasty, but that's simply spectacle. Real inclusion embraces diversity of people and ideas. On another, I find it appalling that they are going to waste food. How about feeding the pasty to the homeless instead of blowing it up? It's an example bourgeois self-indulgence.

Ah, I see we have recruited Prince Philip. We greet all with open arms. There is room for all in our revolution including reformed aristocrats, oligarchs and plutocrats. Welcome though I hate to disappoint it is not a ballet. More like a cartoon version Wagner's The Ring Cycle.
