VIDEO: Party time as Kingston Carnival 2013 comes to town
It was carnival time in Kingston yesterday, as hundreds turned out for an eclectic day of music, food and fun.
The annual Kingston Carnival saw Market Place and the surrounding area transformed into a mini-festival site, as music and dance acts entertained the crowds throughout the afternoon.
Performers included legendary reggae DJ David Rodigan, Get Cape.Wear Cape. Fly and celtic punk outfit The Lagan, as well as several community groups.
The day had kicked off at noon with a carnival procession through town, before the bands took to the stage.
Jon Tolley, manager of Banquet Records, which organised the acts for the main stage, tweeted his admiration of both David Rodigan and the Kingston masses.
He wrote: "Genuinely think Rodigan's a hero. Not in a novelty way. There's a substance and knowledge. Only as good as the crowds tho. Kingston is rad."
The DJ responded in kind, tweeting his thanks to Banquet Records: "@banquetrecords thank you for inviting me to Kingston-Upon-Thames this afternoon for the last hurrah of the Carnival...wonderful".
And @RosieVonD tweeted: "kingston carnival was great fun today. @TheLagan on top form as per. and the familiar face and voice of @forgetcape is always a pleasure."
Some who attended were clearly feeling the effects this morning, with @CesnaiteVaida tweeting: "David Rodigan playing Kingston Carnival has sloshed my Monday morning up." while @KSivlal wrote: "Kingston carnival really needs to happen like every week".
