This Valentine’s Day, why not watch actor Orlando Bloom play Romeo in a Broadway production of Shakespeare’s tragedy?
Leatherhead Theatre is screening a recording of a modern retelling of Romeo and Juliet, which was filmed in New York in November 2013.
Bloom, best known as long-haired elf Legolas in the Lord of the Rings films, and actress Condola Rashad play the famous star-crossed lovers.
The theatre says: "This dazzling production of Romeo and Juliet is a modern take on one of Shakespeare’s best-loved plays."
The production was directed by David Leveaux. This performance was recorded at Richard Rogers Theatre on Broadway on November 27, 2013.
A New York Times review said the audience may be left "glowing and misty-eyed" after a "luminous" balcony scene at the end of the first half.
But it added: "[T]he tragic events that follow pass in such an anticlimactic blur that when our hero and heroine finally off themselves, it’s hard to feel bereft."
