Knights will go into battle as medieval re-enactors turn back the clock to the time of King John later this month, writes Lisa Holmes.

Join the training of militia, have a go at archery and even strike your own coin at the Echoes of the Past re-enactment in Rosebery Park, Epsom.

About 60 performers will give families an insight into daily life and military customs under the reign of King John who signed the Magna Carta.

Cooks will deliver an authentic feast fit for a baron's table and musicians will perform popular songs and music from medieval times.

Families can see the knights’ choice of dress for battle and act as spectators in a fashion show which will showcase the must-wears of the Royal Court.

There will also be the chance to cheer on knights in the tournament of honour, watch them go into battle and find out how the wounded were treated.

For children, the event will feature story-telling, archaeological digs and ancient crafts such as brass-rubbing.

The day is being organised by the Bourne Hall Museum and Historia Normannis society, which prides itself on bringing history to life in an exciting way.
