The anniversaries of some of literature’s best works of fantasy have inspired this weekend’s Elmbridge Literary Festival.

This year marks the 150th anniversary of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, the 60th of Lord of the Rings and 20th of Northern Lights and they will be recognised as a series of talks and workshops from Friday (August 14) to Sunday (August 16), as well as its annual competition.

Writer and broadcaster Brian Sibley, the president of The Lewis Carroll Society and the man who adapted the BBC’s radio production of The Lord of the Rings will host a talk as will award-winning author Caroline Green.

Workshops for writers both young and old will be led by authors Patricia Elliot and Jonathan Barnes.

This year, the festival’s competition is looking for entries that unveil your imagination and take the judges into a different world create by you.

The age categories are for five to seven, eight to 11, 11 to 13, 14 to 18 and 19 plus and the competition closes on October 26.
