A best-selling Richmond author will explain the history of the universe in one hour with references to Led Zeppelin, the Teletubbies and electrocuted gherkins.

The fun, accessible talk in the theatre at Richmond Adult Community College on November 9 is by Simon Singh, whose books include Trick or Treatment and 2013’s The Simpsons and their mathematical secrets.

It is sponsored by the Museum of Richmond, is part of the Richmond upon Thames Literature Festival, and is based on Simon’s acclaimed book Big Bang and will discuss who came up with the big bang theory and what evidence is there to support it.

Simon said: “The reason I wrote this book was because everyone has heard of the big bang but I don’t think many people really understand what it is, or who came up with the idea or why we believe in it today more than ever before.”

As well as his successful writing projects, Simon has won a Bafta for his TV work which includes working as a producer and director on Horizon and Tomorrow’s World and the award-winning documentary Fermat’s Last Theorem.

Tickets cost £10 or £5 students and doors open at 7pm. Call the Museum of Richmond on 020 8332 1141 or go in person to the museum or Open Book in King Street.
