Book lovers will be in their element in Clapham in May as the town gets its most ambitious literary festival to date.

Omnibus has teamed up with Clapham Library and Clapham Writers to host ten writers and more than 15 events in the Old Town Hall and the High Street from May 3 to 8.

Here’s just some of what you can look forward to…

Michael Glover – Wednesday, May 4

The poet and art critic, who lives in Clapham Old Town, starts the week with readings from his works, Hypothetical May Morning and the Book of Extremities, as well as discussing his life as a poet.

Matthew Beaumont and Elizabeth Buchan – Thursday, May 5

Beaumont, a tutor at UCL and author of Nightwalking: A Nocturnal History of London, and Buchan, whose latest book I Can’t Begin to Tell You was a 2016 World Book Day novel, will discuss how a writer’s location impacts upon their work.

Foodie fun – Thursday, May 5

A treat for food fans, chef Oliver Rowe will give an exclusive preview of his debut book Food For All Seasons, which is published by Faber in June.

A Ghost’s Story – Friday, May 6

Author Lorna Gibb reads from her debut novel which explores the Victorian spirit world in a spooky séance setting.

Sign language – Saturday, May 7

Louise Stern and her interpreter will present a fascinating reading in sign language of her debut novel Ismael and his Sisters, which is set in a tight-knit Mexican community where both the deaf and hearing communicate in sign language.

Julie Myerson – Saturday, May 7

Julie Myerson’s previous book Home was about her house in Clapham in the street behind Omnibus. She will be discussing her new novel The Stopped Heart.

Crime in the Afternoon – Saturday, May 7

Isabelle Grey and other crime writers will discuss crime and psychological thrillers.

T-shirt making – Sunday, May 8

While adults enjoy coffee and the papers, children can take part in a poetry t-shirt making workshop with Zoe Williams.

Marcus Chown – Sunday, May 8

Science writer Chown – author of What a Wonderful World, Tweeting the Universe and We Need to Talk About Kelvin - hosts Ask Marcus Anything.
