Mix the Rocky Horror Show with a bit of Grease and a dash of Hairspray, throw in a back-from-the-dead rebel for a bit of taste and hey-presto what do you get? Zombie Prom.

Christopher Clegg's new production at the Landor Theatre is a UK premiere for the musical written by pairing behind The Witches of Eastwick, John Dempsey and Dana P Rowe, and was a massive hit in the States when it premiered off Broadway in the mid-1990s, even being made into an award-winning short film.

The typical 1950s American teen romance follows the tale of Jonny, a rebel because he has taken the h out of his good Christian name, and Toffee.

After falling in love, Toffee's parents and the head teacher ban Jonny from seeing her so he commits suicide by throwing himself in a power station only to return from the dead and attempt to finish school and graduate as a zombie.

"It's never been done professionally in London before, in fact this a UK premiere," says Clegg, who hopes his company's previous production, Betwixt, will be moving to the West End next year.

"It's done in a Rocky Horror style in that weird slightly camp sense and it's really crazy.

"Jonny comes back and just says he wants to be happy and graduate from High School.

"Being set in the 1950s it is similar to the styles of Hairspray and Grease.

"The Zombies are being made up for the first time as I speak to you.

"It's quite an interesting process because they are using Special K to make the faces deformed and it looks great."

The cast is made up of 10 actors, eight of them teenagers with the two leads having just graduated from drama school.

"The creative team and the actors are just phenomenal," says Clegg.

"We've got teenagers who have been in Little Britain and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and the director Ian McFarlane has got together such a good cast.

"We have only had a short rehearsal period of three weeks but because it is moving so quickly it's quite a nice process."
