Croydon prepares for Oxjam
12:00pm Friday 12th October 2012 in Vibe
Croydon’s first ever Oxjam festival, CROxjam, will see a host of venues staging a three day charity festival taking place between Thursday, 18 and Saturday, October 20.
The event is organised as part of the national "local music: global impact" Oxjam city takeover project. The aim is to showcase local talent and raise thousands of pounds for Oxfam.
Bands and solo performers will be playing at Scream Lounge, The Edge, The Half and Half, The Black Sheep Bar, The Green Dragon, The Ship, Matthew’s Yard, Bar Sport, Bad Apple and The Oval - and all of the ticket money will go to charity.
Shows on Thursday and Friday will be free entry or have a small door charge, but on Saturday one wristband for £5 gets you access to everything.
Event co-ordinator John Bownas said: "We’ve a few performances that look like being quite special.
"Eccentronic are certainly one of my top tips if you fancy something just a bit different. They are on at the Black Sheep on Saturday night and they will be doing parts of their critically acclaimed Edinburgh Fringe show.
"Pop downstairs into the basement of Bar Sport on Thursday, you’ll be able to catch an acoustic set from Offbeat South, who Jamie Cullum crowned as the winners of a national talent search last year.
"If I had to name one other band it would be The Midnight Barbers who are on at the Green Dragon on Saturday."
