For a real ale-loving band, the Richmond Food and Beer (Fab) Festival will provide the perfect platform to sample some top tipples as they provide a spectacle for the audience.

Not your ordinary blues band, Lavendore Rogue, who chose their name because nothing came up when it was Googled, will play on the Crawdaddy stage at the Fab Festival this summer.

The band, who have been together just under a year, are currently touring the festival circuit and hope to give the audience something a little different.

Singer JoJo Burgess says: “There’s a lot of catchy Americana blues influence songs with a little bit of theatrics thrown in there.

“We like to put on a bit of a stage show in the sense that it is visual.

“We don’t just wear our jeans and T-shirts that we have been wearing all day, it’s about getting in front of people and trying to entertain them.

“Sometimes I might be in a sparkly top, or a laced top – depending on the weather.

“That way we are a little bit different to other blues bands.”

Completing the group’s line up is two-time British Blues Award nominee Joel Fisk, British Blues Award-winning drummer Stephen Cutmore, Rob Barry on bass and Warren Lynn on keyboards.

The band, who live in and around Colchester, have put together an EP and hope to complete an album in the coming months.

They describe their sound as a cross between the Rolling Stones and Tom Waits, and perform on the same day as singers Goldie Reed and Jo Harman, with whom they share a record label.

The Richmond Fab Festival, held in Old Deer Park, will not only see top musicians showcase their talents on the Crawdaddy Stage, but local brewers and food producers offer their products to visitors at the festival.

A big part of the weekend will be beer, with guests able to sample more than 100 cask ales.

Burgess, a big beer-lover, says: “For me it ticks all the boxes, so to be able to play it is great.

“We are all quite big fans of real ale so we will definitely want to sample a lot of them.

“I generally choose where to go to based on the beer they have.

“There are lots of good real ales creeping up – I don’t particularly like to go for the cheap lager.”
