Now is your chance to see a live performance of Umberto Giodano’s opera Andrea Chénier without having to dress up and pay a fortune at the Royal Opera House.
The performance, taking place at the opera house in Covent Garden, London, will be broadcasted via satellite to theatres.
The new production of Umberto Giordano’s passionate opera of liberty and love in the French Revolution is directed by David McVicar, who was knighted in the 2012 new years’ honours for services to opera.
It follows the tale of Andrea Chénier, who falls in love with a young aristocrat Maddalena who loses everything in the revolution. He offers her protection and in doing so incites the envy of a powerful official Gérard.
The production stars Jonas Kaufmann, a former leading tenor at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, and Eva-Maria Westbroek, who previously starred as Anna Nicole-Smith in the 2011 Royal Opera House’s production of Anna Nicole.
It will be conducted by Antonio Pappano, who was knighted in the 2012 new years’ honours list for services to music.
