Dartford fitness fanatic, Stephen Cornwell, narrowly missed out on a place in the live shows on The Voice UK.

The 24-year-old from Waltham Road, left the second round of the BBC One talent show on Saturday night (March 9) when coach Will.i.am opted to keep 20-year-old Jake Shakeshaft after a sing-off - despite likening the Dartford resident to Enqrique Iglesias.

The pair performed Coldplay's 'Every Teapdrop is a Waterfall' for judges, Will.i.am, Rita Ora, Tom Jones and Ricky Wilson.

The duet was described by Rita as "two sexy fellas singing against each other."

Kaiser Chiefs front man, Ricky Wilson went on to praise Stephen saying: "You've got a huge voice, a great voice but on top of that you've got an okay body and passable good looks but it's all about the voice and you've got that."

Former Black Eyed Peas' member, Will, struggled to choose between the two, turning to the audience for help after telling Stephen: "I never thought someone from the UK could give Enrique Iglesias a run for his money."

Will chose youngster Jake to go through to the next round of the competition.

Despite Rita having the chance to 'steal' Stephen and offer him the one remaining space on her team she sent him home saying: "I just don't think we could work together like that."

Disappointed Stephen, who kicked off his singing career aged six in karaoke competitions, told News Shopper: " I'd like to thank the whole team at The Voice UK and my coach Will.i.am. This is only the beginning of something great."
