Get your voice ready for a mass sing-a-long for charity at Kempton Park Racecourse in September.

Voices for Hospices Choir’s Massed Come and Sing Event on September 27 will raise money for five hospices as people are invited to come together to sing Sir Karl Jenkins’ The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace alongside a professional choir.

All-comers – from choirs or rusty amateurs – are invited to take part and nearly 30 choirs from across the country (and one from France) have already signed up, as have hundreds of individuals.

Sir Karl will be there himself, while chairmain of the RFU Bill Beaumont has lent his support to the afternoon event which will also include the singing of rugby anthems on the day after England take on Wales in the Rugby World Cup.

The sing-a-long is part of the Festival of Rugby, supported by Surrey County Council and Richmond Music and Drama Festival.

“There are lots of choirs locally,” said John Sutton, musical director for this event  as well as Hampton Choral Society, Ember Choral Society (Esher) and Compton and Shawford Festival Choir (Winchester).

“Whether you are in a church, rock, school or college choir, a choral society or if you used to sing and fancy taking it up again, please come along and help us make a great concert for a great cause.”

The event will also provide a platform for 24 young people from the National Citizens Service to learn new skills and work within their local community.

Tickets cost £25 per person for singers and £10 for non singers and children under 12 can come for free. Go to vfhchoir.com
