Bruce Foxton's appearance at the Royal Albert Hall last month was a very special one - it was the first time he and fellow The Jam member Paul Weller had played together since 1982.

His stint on stage, on Weller's birthday, marked the conclusion of a rift between the pair that lasted for 25 years after Weller disbanded The Jam and set up The Style Council.

"I have just about come back down to earth from that night," says Foxton, who plays Fairfield Halls this Friday with his band, From The Jam.

"It was very nerve-wracking going out to 5,000 people and I was on near the end of the gig so spent most of it pacing up and down backstage.

"It went really well though and the crowd's reaction was fantastic, it was the biggest buzz I have had in a while.

"It is great just to be Paul's mate again.

"We have had an awful lot of sadness over the years with my wife Pat and John Weller passing away last year and it just hits home how pathetic some things can be.

"It made Paul think and made me think and we got back in touch and it's great."

The Jam fans hoping for a complete reformation of the band though should not get their hopes up.

"I don't think that will happen," says 54-year-old Foxton.

"I am just really happy with us being friends."

From The Jam, which did also include the other The Jam member, drummer Rick Butler, before he left in September, toured for the first time last year to wide acclaim, playing all the hits by the band.

They are now looking to record new material and release an album of original songs later this year.

"The tour was really well attended last year and it's a testament to the longevity of the really good songs The Jam produced," says Foxton.

"The fans still want to hear them played and the records still sell today.

"There will be one or two new songs at the gig as we want to push forward with new material.

"We are aiming to get an album out later in the year but it just depends what comes out of the next few months."
