Eugene McGuinness will tests new songs at Blue Flowers
My goodness, McGuinness: Scouse scamp Eugene returns to Blue Flowers
My goodness, McGuinness: Scouse scamp Eugene returns to Blue Flowers

One of our favourite Blue Flowers of the past year has been the Scouse singer-songwriter Eugene McGuinness.

Last seen at the George IV music night in July 2007, the young tyke has since been seen peddling his modern-day nursery rhymes in support slots for The Shins, Rilo Kiley and Regina Spector.

A light flirtation with any McGuinness song is liable to develop into a fully-blown crush, from the boystrous A Child Lost in Tesco to crazy but familiar Monsters Under The Bed. And try resisting A Girl Whom My Eyes Shine For But My Feet Run From.

All three songs featured on last year's The Early Learnings of, a mini-album that was picked up by the not-so mini Q magazine and The Guardian.

McGuinness is now recording its full-length follow up and rumour has it that the really rather wonderful Wendy Wonders will make the cut.

A skewed love-song set on Shaftesbury Avenue, the song flickered all-too-briefly on his myspace page before Christmas. Let's hope it gets another outing on Sunday night.
