Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have made their first official public appearance since announcing their baby news – and pregnant Kim admitted that she struggled to get out of bed for it.

The couple have revealed that they are expecting baby number two, but at the Council of Fashion Designers of America awards, reality star Kim told Us Weekly that she was suffering from morning sickness.

She said: “To be honest, I’ve had really bad morning sickness, day sickness, night sickness. I can barely get out of bed.

“It’s a very different type of pregnancy from my first one, but I’m so grateful to be pregnant when we didn’t even think it was going to happen for us. I don’t care how sick I am.”

Rapper husband Kanye was there to present his friend Pharrell Williams with the fashion icon gong and had a few words to say on stage about how difficult getting into the fashion industry was.

Kanye said of his efforts at being a designer in his introduction for Pharrell: “It is very difficult to break perception. Fashion had to be the hardest high school I ever entered. At least I had a big brother.”

He added that Pharrell “talked me through it and kept me going” in the face of criticism over his fashions, calling Pharrell “my style idol”.

Pharrell said: “I’m not a style icon. I’m just inspired. And I’m OK with that.”

Kim also took on presenting duties, handing over the media award to Instagram co-founder Kevin Systrom who called her the “Queen of Instagram” in his speech.

Her appearance at the ceremony came shortly after her stepfather Bruce Jenner made a public debut as Caitlyn Jenner since transitioning to a woman, with a Vanity Fair cover featuring Caitlyn in a strapless corset.

Kim told Page Six at the event: “I was there at the shoot and saw the process and helped pick the glam team. I loved being a part and helping to make Caitlyn feel really comfortable and confident. She would always ask me glam questions and stuff like that.

“I love that everyone has just been so kind and so gracious and that’s all that she really wants.”

Other notable names at the awards included Betsey Johnson, who was honoured with the lifetime achievement award and at 72 years old celebrated with a cartwheel and the splits on stage before being helped back up by Kelly Osbourne.

Chelsea Clinton paid tribute to the late designer Oscar de la Renta, a good friend of her family, and the womenswear award went to Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen for their label The Row, while Tom Ford picked up the menswear award.

James Corden has proved a popular host since taking over The Late Late Show and was on stage to compere the evening, opening with a musical roast of the fashion world — The Unsewable Dress, to the tune of The Impossible Dream.
